The hidden cost of drinking in KLCC is the carpark. RM 12 to RM 25 for a three-hour evening, often a 10-minute walk from your spot to the bar, often full by 19:00 on weekends. PJ runs the other way: free street parking after 18:00 in most commercial zones, covered municipal lots at RM 4 to RM 6 flat for the night, walking distances under 3 minutes from car door to bar door. This is a structural advantage of the PJ small-bar format, and it is worth knowing how to use.
Parking at Dissolved Solids · Damansara Kim
Address: 43-1 Jalan SS20/11, Damansara Kim, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Option 1: Free street parking outside. Jalan SS20/11 has direct street parking outside the entrance. Free after 18:00; RM 0.80 per hour metered before 18:00. On Tuesday to Thursday evenings, finding a spot within 30 metres is reliable. On Friday and Saturday after 20:00, the closest spots fill; the next-block-over spots stay open.
Option 2: Covered municipal lot. Three minutes walk away on Jalan SS20/10. Open until 23:00 (24:00 on Friday and Saturday). RM 4 to RM 6 flat rate for an evening visit. Always has space. The walk is short and lit; nothing dodgy. This is the option we recommend on busy weekends.
Option 3: Free street parking on neighbouring streets. Jalan SS20/10, Jalan SS20/9, and Jalan SS20/12 all have free street parking after 18:00. All within 5 minutes walk. Useful on busy nights when the main street fills.
Overnight parking on the street is fine. Same lot has cars from the previous night most weekday mornings. Take a Grab home if you drink too much.
Parking at Soluble Solids · SS2
Address: 50-1 Jalan SS2/24, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Option 1: Free street parking outside. Jalan SS2/24 has direct street parking outside the entrance. Free after 18:00; RM 0.80 per hour metered before 18:00. SS2 has abundant street parking; finding a spot within 50 metres is reliable on most nights.
Option 2: SS2 neighbourhood spots. Jalan SS2/24, SS2/26, SS2/22 all have free street parking after 18:00. The whole SS2 commercial belt has substantial parking volume.
Option 3: Small private lots. A row of small private lots within 5 minutes walk if street parking is full. RM 3 to RM 5 flat. Useful as a backup but rarely needed.
Overnight parking on SS2 streets is fine. SS2 is a settled residential-commercial zone; cars are left overnight regularly.
Why parking in PJ is structurally easier than in KL
Three reasons the PJ small-bar parking format works:
Lower density. Damansara Kim and SS2 are commercial belts inside residential neighbourhoods. They are not tower districts. The street parking volume is much higher per bar than in KLCC, where one tower's worth of paid carpark serves a whole evening's worth of bar customers.
Free after 18:00 council policy. PJ council meter rules are: paid until 18:00, free after. KL council is paid until 22:00 in most CBD zones. That single policy shift moves the cost equation significantly.
Municipal lots at flat rates. Damansara Kim and SS2 both have municipal lots at flat-rate evening pricing. KLCC has hourly-rate private carparks that compound. A 3-hour visit at a PJ municipal lot is RM 4 to RM 6; the same 3 hours at a KLCC carpark is RM 12 to RM 25.
Drink-and-drive: do not
Malaysian drunk-driving laws are strict. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.08 percent, but enforcement is genuinely active in PJ on Friday and Saturday nights. Two cocktails at our bars (each at 4 to 6 cl of spirit) puts most adults over the limit; three definitely does.
The PJ small-bar plan that actually works:
Drive in, Grab home. Park near the bar, drink, take Grab home. Surge is rare in PJ residential areas (much less than Bangsar or KLCC). RM 12 to RM 20 from Damansara Kim to most KL/PJ neighbourhoods. Pick up the car the next morning.
Designated driver. One non-drinking driver in the group. Our non-alcoholic menu is real (five mocktails at Dissolved Solids, custom builds at Soluble Solids), so the designated driver actually drinks well.
Two-drink rule. If you are driving home, stop at two. For most adults this is below the legal limit and well within the bar's own pace of the room.
For wheelchair access and step-free entry
Dissolved Solids is up a flight of stairs; not wheelchair accessible without assistance. The street parking is on a flat pavement; the entrance has a railing for the stairs. Please WhatsApp ahead if you need help with the stairs and we can be ready to assist.
Soluble Solids is on the ground floor of the shoplot; one shallow step at the entrance. More accessible than Dissolved Solids. The street parking is on a flat pavement directly outside.
