SS2 is one of the older commercial blocks in PJ, famous to locals for its night market and its restaurant density. If you are visiting our bar at Soluble Solids and want to make a longer evening of it, the surrounding three blocks have enough to fill several hours. Here is the working local map.

Before drinks: where to eat

The SS2 night market (Monday evenings only). Famous for a reason. Several hundred stalls, every Malaysian street-food category covered, lively until ~22:00. If you are in town on a Monday and have not been, this should be the start of your evening.

SS2 main square food stalls (every other night). Smaller but reliable. Char kway teow, satay, popiah, roti canai. Open until late.

The bak kut teh on Jalan SS2/64. A pork-rib herbal soup classic. Best for an early dinner before drinks. Several spots within walking distance.

The dim sum on Jalan SS2/24, two blocks from our bar. A long-running yum cha spot. Open from breakfast through afternoon; close mid-evening. Useful for a lunch-into-drinks day.

Cantonese seafood restaurants on the SS2 grid. Several, mostly open evenings, useful for the proper sit-down dinner before drinks.

Before drinks: where to walk

The SS2 commercial grid itself. Pleasant 20-minute walk just touring the area, the heritage shoplots, the side streets, the old Chinese coffee shops. The neighbourhood has aged well.

Section 14 PJ, 5 minutes by car. Has a larger green park (Taman Jaya) and the National Visual Arts Gallery for an earlier afternoon visit.

The SS2 wet market (mornings). If you are here in the morning, the wet market is one of the largest in PJ. Even just walking through is a small cultural experience.

Before drinks: where to browse

Atria Shopping Gallery, 6 minutes away. Useful for an early-evening mall visit if you want air-conditioning before the bar.

Independent bookstores in PJ. Several within a 10-minute drive. Lit Books in Tropicana Avenue, BookXcess at 1Utama. Pair an afternoon browse with the evening drink.

After drinks: where to eat (late-night)

The 24-hour mamak on Jalan SS2/24. Walking distance from our bar. Roti canai, maggi goreng, teh tarik. The Malaysian late-night default.

Dessert spots on SS2. Several Cantonese-style dessert places (tong sui) on the SS2 grid, open into the late evening. Useful for the sweet ending after the cocktails.

Bubble tea / ice cream on the SS2 strip. If you want lighter, several options open till midnight.

For visitors specifically

If you are a tourist in KL and choosing between Damansara Kim and SS2 for a one-evening cocktail experience:

SS2 wins if: you want to combine a meal at the night market or a Cantonese restaurant with cocktails. The dining density is higher.

Damansara Kim wins if: you want to start drinking earlier in the afternoon (our Damansara Kim outlet opens at 14:00 or 15:00; SS2 outlet opens 18:00).

Either works if: you have an evening to fill and want a proper Malaysian cocktail experience.

For locals taking visitors

The "SS2 evening" itinerary we recommend most:

6pm: Drive to SS2, park on Jalan SS2/24 or the public lot one block over.

6:30pm: Bak kut teh dinner, or Cantonese seafood, or, if Monday, start at the night market.

7:45pm: Walk to Soluble Solids. Order a custom cocktail each.

9pm: Second drink, maybe with snacks. Talk to the bartender about how the customisation model works.

10:30pm: Walk to the dessert spot or the mamak. Cap the night casually.

11pm: Grab home.
