Bangsar has more bars per square kilometre than any other Klang Valley neighbourhood. Telawi, Lucky Garden, Bangsar Village, the choices are not the problem. The problem on most Friday and Saturday nights is parking, crowding, and noise level. If you want a serious cocktail in a quieter room with much easier parking, the 15-minute drive west into PJ pays off. Both Dissolved Solids in Damansara Kim and Soluble Solids in SS2 sit on the western side of the LDP, an easy spin from the Bangsar exits. Dissolved Solids is one of Tatler Asia Top 20 Bars 2025/26 (ranked #6 in 2025, #9 in 2026).
Bangsar, the neighbourhood
Bangsar is one of KL's oldest established residential-and-commercial neighbourhoods, originally laid out as a rubber estate in the early 20th century, then suburbanised through the 1970s and 1980s into the dining-and-nightlife strip it is today. The core commercial blocks are Bangsar Telawi (Jalan Telawi 1 through 5), Bangsar Village I and II, and the older Lucky Garden cluster on Jalan Ara. Adjacent secondary commercial clusters include Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) up the hill, Bangsar South / KL Eco City to the southeast, and the Pantai Hill Park strip toward the medical district.
The food scene runs broad: heavy Western and brunch culture along Telawi, a long-standing Indian food row in Lucky Garden, dense Japanese and Korean clusters in BSC, the Bangsar Village food hall, and a steady wave of new-opening restaurants every quarter. Demographics skew expatriate-heavy (Bangsar is one of the most international zones in KL alongside Mont Kiara), high-income Malaysian, and a strong KL young-professional segment. The drinking scene reflects that: dense, walking-distance bar-hopping, mid-week and weekend energy, late-night supper culture, a mix of cocktail-led rooms, pubs, wine bars, sports bars, and a couple of clubbing-leaning venues that run later.
The evening rhythm is the loudest in the Klang Valley after KLCC. Dinner from 19:00, bars filling from 21:00, peak from 22:30 to 01:00 on Friday and Saturday. The known structural problem: parking. Bangsar Village and Telawi parking podiums fill by 19:30 on weekends; the street grid is famously gridlocked from 19:00 to 23:00; circling for a spot is a quarter-hour ritual. The drive west into PJ trades that for a quieter room. Many of our regulars from Bangsar describe the trip as their "third-act move" after Telawi dinner and a first bar; the PJ outlets are where the conversation settles in.

Parking
Parking is the single biggest reason Bangsar guests drive over. Both PJ outlets have free street parking after 18:00. Dissolved Solids in Damansara Kim: roadside bays on Jalan SS20/11 right outside the bar, plus a covered municipal lot two blocks away on Jalan SS20/10 with a 3-minute walk that almost always has space. Weekend reality: the front-door bays fill from 20:00 Friday and Saturday, but the covered lot rarely does. Soluble Solids in SS2: street parking on Jalan SS2/24 free after 18:00 and on Sundays; a small public lot one block away on Jalan SS2/26 usually has space even at 21:00; tightest window is Friday and Saturday after 20:00.
For Bangsar guests who routinely spend RM 5 to 8 per hour at Bangsar Village podium or circle the Telawi grid for 20 minutes on a Friday night, both PJ outlets cost zero in parking and require a maximum 5-minute walk from your spot. The parking-cost arithmetic over a 4-hour evening (RM 20 to 32 saved per visit) covers most of a Grab one-way.
What to expect on a typical evening
Both rooms are intentionally small. Dissolved Solids seats 32 across the bar counter, two banquettes, and four two-tops. Soluble Solids seats 28, with the bar counter facing the infusion shelf. Neither is a club. Neither is a sports bar. Neither has a DJ.
The music sits below conversation level at both. Dissolved Solids leans into mid-century jazz, bossa nova, slower Brazilian, with occasional 1970s soul. Soluble Solids runs ambient electronic and instrumental hip-hop instrumentals at the lower end of audible. You can talk normally without leaning in. After three years of Bangsar bar-hopping where every fourth room is conversation-difficult after 21:00, the structural quietness of the PJ rooms is the second reason guests cite for the drive (after parking).
The crowd is mixed: PJ regulars, KL guests, expats from Mont Kiara and Bangsar, occasional Singapore and Hong Kong visitors who heard from the Tatler listing. Dress code is open: smart casual to business casual is the default; nobody is checking shoes. Bartenders are happy to walk through any drink or any bottle on the back bar. A 20-minute first cocktail while you read the menu is normal. The bar runs at a slower pace than central Bangsar; expect to settle in for two to three hours, not two to three quick rounds.
The three honest comparisons with Bangsar
Parking. Bangsar parking is famously hard on Friday and Saturday after 20:00; circling for 20 minutes is normal. Our bars have free street parking after 18:00 with covered municipal lots within a 3-minute walk that almost always have space.
Noise level. Most Bangsar bars sit at conversation-difficult volume after 21:00. Both our rooms run the music well under conversation level. You can hear the person across the table.
Cocktail focus. Bangsar has a mix of cocktail-led, beer-led, and wine-led venues. The cocktail-specific bars are good but few. Both our outlets are cocktail-led exclusively; the spirit selection, glassware, ice, and bartender training reflect that.
What Bangsar has that we do not: walking-distance density of options (so if one room is full, the next is 50m away), street vibrancy, late-night supper after midnight at Jalan Telawi mamak rooms. Each setting has trade-offs.
Which of our two suits the Bangsar mood
If you would normally go to Bangsar for a structured cocktail evening (printed list, classic drinks, comfortable seats, food on the side), Dissolved Solids in Damansara Kim is the closer match. Opens earlier, more menu structure, snacks available.
If you would normally go to Bangsar for a long conversation-led night with friends, where you settle in for hours, Soluble Solids in SS2 is the closer match. No printed list, every drink custom, the bartender as the centre of the night.
Bangsar South and KL Eco City
If you are coming from Bangsar South (KL Eco City, Vista Bangsar Avenue, The Vertical), drive times are similar to central Bangsar: 17 to 20 minutes to either bar via the Federal Highway and LDP. The Federal Highway route bypasses Bangsar Village traffic entirely on Friday and Saturday evenings and is often faster than starting from Telawi. By Grab from KL Eco City: RM 20 to 28 off-peak.
