"How much is a cocktail in PJ?" is a fair question that very few bars answer publicly before you sit down. Here is the honest pricing map for our two bars and the general PJ cocktail-bar range. Saves you the surprise.

The headline numbers

For a serious cocktail bar in PJ, in 2026:

  • Standard cocktail: RM 38-48 (most bars sit RM 42-45)
  • Premium spirit cocktail (top-shelf base): RM 55-75
  • Off-menu / customised cocktail: Same as standard.
  • Spirit, neat (30ml): RM 22-95 depending on the bottle.
  • Bar snack: RM 18-32 per item.
  • Mocktail / non-alcoholic cocktail: RM 25-35.
  • Soft drink / coffee: RM 12-18.

Compared to KL city centre (KLCC, Bukit Bintang, rooftop venues): roughly 10-25% cheaper for the same calibre of cocktail. Plus the parking saving (free vs RM 5+/hour).

What a normal evening costs

Solo drinker, 2-hour visit: RM 80-120. Two cocktails plus a small snack.

Couple, 2.5-hour visit: RM 180-280. Two cocktails each plus one shared snack.

Group of 4, 3-hour visit: RM 400-650. Three cocktails each plus 2-3 shared snacks.

Pricing at Dissolved Solids and Soluble Solids sits in the middle of these ranges. Detailed price lists are on the menu when you arrive; we have not put per-drink prices online because they change seasonally.

What is included

Standard at any decent PJ cocktail bar:

  • Hand-cut clear ice on spirit-forward drinks (we wrote about why this matters: clear ice at home).
  • Fresh juice (lime, lemon, calamansi, grapefruit) made daily.
  • House-made syrups (simple, demerara, honey, often pandan, gula melaka, others).
  • House-made tinctures and bitters where applicable. See our tinctures and bitters piece.
  • Filtered water on request, no charge.

What costs extra

  • Premium spirits (single malts over 15 years, allocated bourbon, rare Japanese whisky). Marked clearly on the menu.
  • Champagne by the glass (RM 55-95). Prosecco is significantly cheaper (RM 35-45).
  • Bottles of wine / spirits ordered for the table.

The bill structure

In Malaysia, F&B bills include:

  • 6% SST (sales and service tax): applied to alcohol.
  • 10% service charge: applied at most cocktail bars including ours. The service charge goes to staff.

Total markup vs the menu price: ~16% on alcoholic items. A RM 42 cocktail comes to RM 48.72 with tax + service. We list this clearly on the menu so there are no surprises.

Tipping

Tipping is not expected in Malaysian F&B because of the built-in service charge. That said, many guests leave an extra RM 5-20 in cash on the table if the bartender went above and beyond, built something specific, ran a custom tasting flight, stayed past closing. Cash tips go directly to the bartender. There is no awkwardness either way.

Cover charges and entry fees

Neither of our bars has a cover charge or entry fee, ever. This is true of most PJ cocktail bars. Cover charges are mostly a KL club thing, not a cocktail-bar thing.

Some KL venues charge a minimum spend per seat at peak times (typically RM 100-150). We do not do this.

Hidden costs to watch for

At any bar (not just ours, not just PJ):

  • Premium-spirit upsell. A bartender suggesting "we have a special bottle, want to try?" can mean a RM 95 pour. Ask the price before saying yes if you are cost-conscious.
  • Champagne tower / bottle service. Common at high-end clubs, rare at cocktail bars. At a true cocktail bar, this should not happen unless you specifically ask.
  • Birthday cake fee. Some venues charge RM 30-50 to cut and plate an outside birthday cake. We do not at either of our bars (cake handling is on us).

How to keep the bill predictable

Order in pairs (two drinks at a time per person), check the menu prices before ordering off-menu, ask the bartender to recommend their best-value drink if cost is a factor (they will tell you honestly).

For groups: ask for a separate bill at the start. We do this without complaint, and it saves the awkward end-of-evening split.
