Damansara Kim is a residential neighbourhood with a thin commercial strip on Jalan SS20/11. The kopitiams close by 22:00. The mamak stays open later. There is no clubbing scene, no big rooftop, no neon strip. For someone looking for a quiet late-night drink, that turns out to be the point. Here is the small map of where to go after the rest of the neighbourhood has gone dark.
The 22:00 cutoff
Most of Damansara Kim's restaurants stop serving by 22:00. The Chinese coffee shops are done. The Western cafes have closed their kitchens. From around 22:30, the main strip empties out fast.
What stays open: the 24-hour mamak at the SS20 corner, the Indian Muslim restaurant a block north, two cocktail rooms, and one wine bar.
If you want a serious cocktail past 22:00
Dissolved Solids (us). 43-1 Jalan SS20/11. Open Tuesday to Thursday until 00:00, Friday and Saturday until 01:00, Sunday until 00:00. We get our late-night peak around 22:30 to 23:30 most nights. The bartender can build something quick if you have ten minutes before closing; just say so.
Other neighbourhood operators do good work too. We leave them to introduce themselves. The Damansara Kim cocktail community is small but fundamentally collaborative, most of us cross-refer when one room is full.
If you want a long sit after midnight
Friday and Saturday only. The bar stays open until 01:00 those nights, last call around 00:30. The room is at its best in that final 90-minute window, quieter than the dinner crowd, lights down, music a touch louder. The drinkers who stay tend to be regulars or first-time guests who came on the right kind of recommendation.
Tuesday through Thursday, last call is around 23:30, doors close at midnight. The room thins out by 23:00; if you want a quiet end-of-day drink, that hour is consistently good.
What to order if you have arrived late
Late-night drinking has its own logic. Three rules that work for us:
1. Pick spirit-forward. The palate at midnight is not the palate at 19:00. Subtle floral and herbal drinks land flatter. Spirit-forward classics (Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Negroni, Boulevardier) hold up better at the end of an evening. So do strong stirred drinks (Martini, Vesper).
2. Cut the sugar. Sweet drinks that worked at the start of the night will leave you with a worse morning. Whisky-led drinks with citrus rather than cream or syrup are kinder to tomorrow.
3. One coffee drink at the end. An Espresso Martini or a Kopi Sour at last call has saved more drinking nights than it has ruined. The caffeine pulls you into the drive home; the alcohol takes the edge off. Not a productivity tool, just a competent end-of-night drink.
The walk home
Damansara Kim is residential. If you live within a 10-minute walk, walking home from the bar is one of the small pleasures of the neighbourhood. The streets are quiet, well-lit on the main strip, and the night air is reliably warm.
If you are driving back, Damansara Kim sits between three exits onto the LDP, which is usually empty after midnight. The drive to most of PJ is 10 to 15 minutes. KL city centre is 25 minutes.
Grab pickup from our bar to most KL and PJ destinations is RM 12-25 off-peak. Surge after 01:00 is rare.
Other neighbourhoods to consider
If Damansara Kim is too quiet, the late-night options nearby are:
- Damansara Utama (Uptown PJ). 4 minutes away. Multiple bars and karaoke rooms open past 01:00.
- SS2. 8 minutes away. Our sister bar Soluble Solids closes at 01:00 Wed-Sun.
- TTDI. 8 minutes away. A couple of late-night casual bars on Jalan Datuk Sulaiman.
- Bangsar. 15 minutes away. Loud, busy, and louder. Different energy.
- Bukit Bintang / KLCC. 25 minutes. Late-night infrastructure (24-hour bars, clubs, supper joints).
The honest summary
Damansara Kim is a great place to drink late if you want a quiet bar in a quiet neighbourhood. It is not a great place if you want a loud crowd and bottle service. There is no shame in either preference. Both are valid.
If you want to come find us, the doors are open Tuesday to Sunday. Walk in or message ahead.
