An anniversary evening at a cocktail bar is one of the easier wins for a couple looking to mark a date. It is quieter than a restaurant, more personal than a hotel bar, and the bartender becomes part of the memory. Here is the working plan for an anniversary at either of our PJ outlets.

Pick the room

Dissolved Solids, Damansara Kim. Better for the structured anniversary evening. Printed cocktail list lets you order without negotiation. Snacks available for the table. Easy to slip in a "we are celebrating" without making it the whole evening's energy. 32 seats, warm light, conversation-friendly volume.

Soluble Solids, SS2. Better for the anniversary evening you want to make memorable in a specific way. The customisation model means the bartender will build a drink specifically for the occasion, your anniversary, the year, the city you met in, the cocktail from your wedding. Tell us in the WhatsApp reservation and we will pre-think it.

Pick the timing

Best: Wednesday or Thursday, 19:30 to 22:30. Quiet enough that the bartender can spend time on your build. Other guests in the room but not packed. Plenty of energy without the Friday-night chaos.

Avoid: Friday or Saturday after 20:30. Both rooms get busier and louder. The energy is great for groups, less great for two people trying to mark an occasion.

Sunday afternoon (15:00-17:00) for a daytime anniversary works well. Long, slow, the natural light is good for photos.

The pre-order trick

Three days before your anniversary, WhatsApp the bar with:

  • The date and approximate arrival time.
  • Mention it is your anniversary, and how many years.
  • The cocktail you both had at your first proper date, your wedding, or any other memorable evening.
  • What you both drink now.

We will pre-think a small surprise, sometimes a build that references the original drink, sometimes a small pre-dessert, sometimes just a note on the menu they put in front of you. Anniversaries are one of the few occasions where over-preparing on the bar's side is genuinely welcome.

The drinks order

Two rules for an anniversary evening that works:

1. Start with what you know you both like. Not the time for both of you to experiment. A Negroni and a Pandan Collins, an Old Fashioned and a French 75, pick safe, then experiment on the second round.

2. End with something special. An aged spirit, a vintage liqueur, an unusual dessert cocktail. The closing drink is what you will remember the next morning. Ask the bartender for "something to mark the night", they will pour you something appropriate.

The small details that matter

Pre-cut flowers. If you brought flowers, ask the bar to put them in a vase at your table. We will.

Cake handling. If you brought a cake, we cut and plate it at no charge. Bring it in any time, just hand it to a staff member with a note about when to bring it out.

Photography. We will take a photo of the two of you on request. We will not turn it into a posed scene unless you want one.

A separate bill or not. Tell us at the start whether you want one bill or two. We will set it up accordingly.

Quiet exit if it goes long. If you want a final quiet half-hour without further service after the last drink, just say so. We will leave you alone in the corner.

Anniversary-suitable cocktails worth ordering

For sparkle: French 75 (gin, lemon, sugar, champagne) or Negroni Sbagliato (Campari, vermouth, prosecco). Visually celebratory, lower in spirit than a Martini.

For warmth: Boulevardier or Manhattan. Both stirred, both deeply flavoured, both photograph well in candlelight.

For local context: Pandan Collins or Bandung Spritz at the start of the evening, Kopi Sour or Gula Melaka Old Fashioned at the end. The local pairings tell a small story about where you are.

Frequently asked questions

Which PJ cocktail bar is best for an anniversary?

Dissolved Solids in Damansara Kim suits a structured anniversary: printed cocktail list, snacks, easy to slip in a quiet celebration. Soluble Solids in SS2 suits a personalised one: the bartender will build a drink specifically for the occasion, your year, the city you met in, or the cocktail from your wedding, if you mention details in the WhatsApp reservation in advance.

What's the best time to come for an anniversary?

Wednesday or Thursday between 19:30 and 22:30. Quiet enough that the bartender can spend time on your build, with other guests in the room but not packed. Avoid Friday or Saturday after 20:30; both rooms get busier and louder, which suits groups more than two people. Sunday afternoon 15:00 to 17:00 works for a daytime anniversary with good natural light.

How do I pre-order a surprise cocktail for an anniversary?

WhatsApp the bar three days before. Send the date, arrival time, how many years you are celebrating, the cocktail you had at your first proper date or wedding, and what you both drink now. We will pre-think a small surprise: a build referencing the original drink, a small pre-dessert, or a note on the menu. Anniversaries are one of the few occasions where over-preparing on the bar side is genuinely welcome.

Can I bring a cake or flowers for an anniversary?

Yes to both. If you bring flowers, we will put them in a vase at your table. If you bring a cake, we cut and plate it at no charge; hand it to a staff member with a note about when to bring it out. We will also take a photo of the two of you on request, without turning it into a posed scene unless you want one.

What cocktails work best for an anniversary toast?

For sparkle: French 75 (gin, lemon, sugar, champagne) or Negroni Sbagliato (Campari, vermouth, prosecco), both visually celebratory and lower in spirit than a Martini. For warmth: Boulevardier or Manhattan, both stirred and photographing well in candlelight. For local context: Pandan Collins or Bandung Spritz to start, Kopi Sour or Gula Melaka Old Fashioned to close.
